How to drive new officials out of the game

“Rarely is it the players’ actions or words that demoralize and drive officials out of the game. Rather, it’s usually the coaches, overzealous fans and sometimes our fellow officials who inflict the most damage on aspiring young officials. Veteran officials need to mentor within their own groups and encourage professional behavior from coaches. They have a duty to support new officials with patience and positive leadership. And to our fellow officials coaching high school and youth sports, we especially need you to walk the walk and set the standard for positive interactions with all officials, and most especially our future ones.”
